Hello, dear readers. It’s been quiet here at Buried Under Romance, but that’s all about to change. How? Well, part of that is up to you.
First off, a big round of applause to our founder, Mary Chen, for bringing Buried Under Romance into being. Over the years, we have had some top-notch staff, making sure we had informative and entertaining content, that the site ran smoothly, and that we have a warm and welcoming place for romance readers and writers, be they big names, or new kids on the romance novel block.
Since the early days of the interwebs, websites and forums have been gathering places for those of like minds. When it comes to romance fiction, which is all about the relationships in the first place, finding a site where it’s easy to learn about romance releases new and old, find new authors, and chat with fellow readers is not the hardest thing in the cyber-world. Like a certain kind of romance/ there are more than likely multiple sites that can feed the hunger, so how does one site stand out from all the rest? is that even a need? I like to think that it is, otherwise one site would satisfy everybody, right?
One of the reasons I first took notice of Buried Under Romance wasn’t because of the reviews, though those are a definite strength and we will be seeing more of them in days to come. There were interviews, and I would like to see more of those as well. Excerpts from novels? Sure. Cover reveals? Bring them on. If I had to pick one single thing that drew me to this site above all others, I would have to say it was the name. Buried Under Romance, to me, connotes a Scrooge McDuck room full of gold coins, where one can dive in and swim around, but instead of gold coins, it’s romance novels. What could possibly be better than that? To my reckoning, not much.
Some of us have been around long enough to remember when there was an actual paper magazine dedicated to romance novels, that a reader could walk into a store and buy. I miss that. Yes, publishing has changed, but the love remains the same, and having a place where we can do as glorious belly flop into a bottomless pool of romance, well, it doesn’t get much better than that.
For years, I have half-joked about what I would do if someone dropped a romance magazine in my lap, and it was only recently that members of the Buried Under Romance team reminded me that it’s basically happened. Not the paper part, but getting to shape a publication I always wished existed? Dream come true.
So, what does that dream entail? Well, for one, I want to not only belly flop into that pool of romance but swan dive in, bring readers into their favorite romance worlds, eras, authors, etc, share some of our staff’s favorites, and, most importantly, share the love.
We’re all in this together, so, dear readers, we want to know what you want to see. Do you want to know our staff’s favorite tropes? Find out where on earth to start great series that seem a thousand books long? Want to rave about a favorite author or setting one doesn’t see as much anymore? Share a great new indie find, or something else? Pull up a chair in the comment section and tell us all about it. There’s room for everybody at this table.
