Happy birthday to Buried Under Romance. The celebration some of us had planned will be a little…mmmm…extended, aka delayed, because life gets crazy sometimes. Which is exactly when being Buried Under Romance is a very good thing. How so? Glad you asked.
While I wish I could point to the exact moment I found this wonderful website for the very first time, that’s not the first thing on my mind. What I do remember is that, the first time I found it, I loved the name instantly. Buried Under Romance, to me, meant bogs and gobs of romance novels, of all shapes and sizes and formats, like Scrooge McDuck and his room full of gold coins, where he could slide or dive into them and play around like he was in a giant ball pit. Honestly, for this romance reader and writer, that sounds like a really good time, no matter what else may be going on in so-called “real” life.
The reviews, which will be coming back soon, were one of the first things I noticed, of course. With all the wonderful stories coming out literally every week, it’s not possible for one person to be on top of them all, which is why our stable of reviewers, spearheaded by the delightful and determined Evelyn and Lisa, and made possible by Mary, the woman who made this all possible in the first place. Though we come from different backgrounds, and have different preferences in our reading, we also share a deep and abiding love of the romance genre, and the timeless promise that, no matter what else life throws our way, there is a happily ever after at the end of it all.
Which is a pretty good thing. Had a good day/ Cap it off with a romance novel. Had a so-so day? At least there’s romance novels. Had a craptacular day? Romance novel therapy is there to assure us that things will turn out all right in the end. Tough times only mean we are in the middle of the story.
That, in turn, is fitting for the birthday of this site. We’ve had different reviewers, some interviews, tried new things, sorted out some that worked and learned from some that did not. Now, we are a little older, a little wiser, and, if not actually ready to party on the actual birthday, well on the way there.
What I love most about being Buried Under Romance is not only the books, but the people. From different parts of the country and world, we can all come together here, to share about the books that we love, the ones we would like to see, and, hopefuliy, to get to know the people who make those books possible. As someone who wears both the writer and reader hats, having a place to gather and talk about my very favorite thing, is great for any day, great, so-so, craptacular or anywhere else on the spectrum.
For our regular readers, and especially our super talented reviewers and admins, we could not go into the next iteration without you. For those who are new to us, welcome. There is a lot more romance yet to come.
So, dear readers, I turn it over to you. Pull up a seat in the comment section, pick up a piece of virtual cake, your favorite romance novel, and get ready for the next phase of Buried Under Romance. There’s room for everybody at this table.
