The Daredevil Snared is the third book in The Adventurers Quartet series by Stephanie Laurens.
It’s important to note that this book ends on a cliffhanger! A while back I read the fourth book in the series! A big mistake really because the angst I should have been feeling towards the captives in the story just wasn’t there because I knew how it would end for them. But if you are sensible and read this book first then I am sure you will appreciate the drama!
OK, so…Katherine Fortescue is working as a governess in a place called Freeport. She gets kidnapped by people who want her to look after children forced into work in a diamond mine. In fact, all the miners and helpers in the mine have been kidnapped.
Captain Caleb Frobisher is the youngest son of 4, and so far two of his elder brothers (featured in the first two books) have done their part in trying to find and rescue the people in the mine. It’s now Caleb’s turn and he is determined to prove his worth by making sure the rescue is a success. He and his men put their all into finding the captives and even when things go terribly wrong, they could still turn out to be a bonus after all.
The story that follows, for me was a little drawn out but a lot of that might have been because I knew the ultimate outcome. A little of it also was because it took a long time before the romance started in the story. I am all about the romance! Thankfully the story took off once Caleb and Katherine met.
The characters were interesting and their part in trying to escape the clutches of the mercenary who had every intention of killing them all once they outlived their usefulness. I also enjoyed how despite their circumstances close friendships were formed. I am sure once you have read this book you will have to buy the next one because you will have to know the outcome. I am happy to say that the climax of the story is fabulous and that particular book earned a glowing 5-star review.
