The Highland Protector series brings to life four mouthwatering Celtic brothers in twenty-first-century North Carolina—where the lasses are anything but tamed. Highland warrior Alec MacDara and his brothers traveled forward in time to protect the sacred Heartsone. Their cover? Owners and operators of a theme park called Highland Life and Legends. As the chairman, Alec has been fending off requests to film at the breathtaking property. It’s only because of the charming correspondence from an enterprising production assistant that he agrees to a meeting at all. That’s when Alec meets a woman whose lush curves make him forget, for the first time, all about tenth-century Scotland. A lowly assistant for her sister’s motion picture company, wannabe screenwriter Sadie Williams is shocked when Alec agrees to let them film at the park upon one condition: that she report to him daily. Sadie’s sister always told her that their parents only adopted her because they felt sorry for the ugly little stray. But Alec looks at Sadie like she’s the most tempting creature in the world. And with his gleaming, musclebound body stripped down to nothing but a hip-hugging kilt and boots, Alec clearly knows a little something about temptation. Sadie’s Highlander is the first book in the Highland Protectors series by Maeve Greyson.
Sadie is a young woman with a huge inferiority complex. She was given up as a child, then fostered by less than loving people. Her foster sister was resentful and jealous and made it her goal to be nasty to Sadie, to always belittle her and make her unhappy. It’s little wonder that as an adult Sadie has no self-esteem. One thing that she does know is that she is good at is writing. Her dream is to become a successful screenplay writer. She works for her sister Delia, who happens to own a production company. A good word from her could make Sadie, whereas a bad one could ruin her. Because of that, she works pretty much as a dogs body just hoping that her sister will help her!
It’s in her capacity as dog’s body that she ends up emailing Alec. He owns a Highland Theme Park where people visit to experience life in Highlander times in old Scotland. She writes to him asking him please to let her sister’s company film on his land. Something he had previously declined. After all her emails, Alec decides to at least meet with her and her sister to discuss things.
Alec is no normal Highlander, he was born in centuries ago, and he and his clan are the keepers of the Heartstone. In a bid to keep it safe magical powers of the goddesses sent him and his clan with the Heartstone to the 21st century where they could keep the stone safer because all knowledge of it was gone even in myth by then.
When he and Sadie meet it’s love at first sight although Sadie thinks she just lusts after the sexy Highlander. Her insecurities won’t allow her to believe that he might feel anything towards her. But his looks towards her, his actions toward her makes her wonder.
Alec agrees to let her sister film on his land but only if Sadie spends the six weeks during filming as his guest, her not her sister! She is dumbfounded but at her sister’s insistence, she agrees.
From then this book is a purely magical experience! Alec’s is the perfect hero, he is sexy, funny, clever and he will do everything in his power to help Sadie see she is a special woman worthy of love, especially his. The passionate times between them are pure sizzle! All the while, as his wooing of Sadie is progressing, her sister is plotting something diabolical behind their backs. Something that could not only ruin the theme park, ruin his relationship with Sadie, but also bring the very happiness of the world into peril! Can Alec stop her before it’s too late or can he at least limit the damage from the fallout!
This book was so exciting and captivating that despite being sick in bed I forced myself to stay awake longer than I should to read it. I was taken away from my sick bed into Sadie and Alec’s world, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I was with Alec when he wanted to kill Delia, I was with poor Sadie when her heart was breaking over what her sister did, I ran the whole gamut of emotions. This book was just what the doctor ordered! I loved it and can’t wait to read the next in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance readers copy of this book.
