Sometimes starting over means finding everything you’ve been missing…

After catching her fiancé cheating—with another man–usually straight-laced, workaholic scientist Ellie Fisher liberates her wild side just long enough to indulge in a passionate one-night-stand with a tall, dark stranger she meets at a trendy Miami bar. Embarrassed by her recklessness, she ducks out the following morning without learning the guy’s full name, something that shouldn’t have been a problem…until a pregnancy test turns positive.

Being a professional football player, Hudson King has always been cautious around women. But this one had been different—so disinterested in his celebrity, so convincingly into him. When Ellie tracks him down, claiming she’s carrying his baby, he’s stunned. And more than a little betrayed.

But after growing up as an orphan, he’ll do anything to stay involved in his child’s life, so he urges Ellie to move to Silver Springs where they can co-parent. Hudson has a lot of love to give—certainly enough for his child, and when their initial spark reignites, perhaps for Ellie too…

UNTIL YOU LOVED ME by Brenda Novak is the third installment of the Silver Springs series. It’s a delightful look into the lives of a top ranked pro quarterback and a scientist who have absolutely nothing in common when they meet except a complete lack of desire to get involved with anyone.

Hudson King did not have an easy childhood. In and out of foster homes after being abandoned as a newborn, he struggled to put his life together. He found success playing for the Los Angeles Devils, but despite his personal success, he found it hard to trust people. Most people only wanted to know him for what they could get from him. He couldn’t help but be intrigued by scientist Ellie Fisher. Not only did she have no interest in meeting him, she didn’t even seem to know who he was. Ellie and Hudson soon find their lives intertwined in ways they could not have even imagined.

Both Hudson and Ellie were very easy characters to like and I was drawn into their story immediately. I appreciate Ms. Novak’s approach to romance. While sex is an important component in this story and there are a couple of scenes that touch on explicit, most of the action takes place behind closed doors and the reader is free to use their imagination. This also takes the focus off the sex and puts on the storyline which is where I feel it should be.

The even paced plot becomes more complicated with the addition of a mystery concerning Hudson’s background. While somewhat predictable, it held my interest though to the satisfying conclusion and the HEA. The only thing missing in this tale of Silver Springs, in my opinion, was Silver Springs. Usually in small town series, the town and its town folk are practically a major character but that wasn’t the case in UNTIL YOU LOVED ME. Except for an occasional mention of a boy’s home that Hudson is involved with, this story could have taken place anywhere. The secondary characters were also very secondary, or thirdly even. I would have liked to have gotten to know them and Silver Springs a bit better, but this would make it easier to read this book as a standalone novel.

All in all, I found UNTIL YOU LOVED ME to be an interesting summer read, and it left me impatient for football season to begin

I voluntarily read an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

About Brenda Novak

It was a shocking experience that jump-started Brenda Novak’s career as a bestselling author–she caught her day-care provider drugging her children with cough syrup to get them to sleep all day. That was when Brenda decided she needed to quit her job as a loan officer and help make a living from home.

“When I first got the idea to become a novelist, it took me five years to teach myself the craft and finish my first book,” Brenda says. But she sold that book, and the rest is history. Her novels have made the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists and won many awards, including four Rita nominations, the Book Buyer’s Best, the Book Seller’s Best and the National Reader’s Choice Award.

Brenda and her husband, Ted, live in Sacramento and are proud parents of five children–three girls and two boys. When she’s not spending time with her family or writing, Brenda is usually raising funds for diabetes research (her youngest son has this disease). So far, Brenda has raised $2.4 million.
