When crime reporter Derek Brandt paints ghost whisperer Christine Wilson as a charlatain on the nightly news, her sister Ron, an actual ghost, is incensed. Defying her sister's wishes, Ron takes it upon herself to haunt the skeptical journalist and turn him into a true believer. But Ron gets more than she bargained for when she discovers Derek is already haunted--by the ghost of his murdered brother, Jimmy.
After spending years watching over his kid brother with no way to communicate, Jimmy is ready to do whatever it takes to get through to him so he can move on to his final rest. Ron is happy to help, but they need Chris in order to relay Jimmy's message to Derek. Only problem is, despite all evidence to the contrary Derek is still convinced Chris is a fraud. And after what he did to her reputation, Chris isn't exactly filled with warm feelings for Derek, either.
Can the Wilson sisters help Jimmy break down Derek's resistance and accept that his brother is still present and in need of help? And can Chris and Derek put aside their mutual distrust for Jimmy's sake? If they do, they just might find that enemies can turn out to be kindred spirits.

Kindred Spirits is the second book in the Restless Spirits series by Jean Marie Bauhaus. It can be read as a stand alone, and be enjoyed, but you can tell in parts that you missed a lot by not having read the first book first. By the sounds of it, it was one fantastic story. I haven’t read it, but will definitely remedy that now that I have read this one.
Christine Wilson is a medium, she can see and communicate with ghosts. In fact she lives in a house with three ghosts, her sister, her sister’s boyfriend and their dog! Their story can be found in book one of the series. Christine doesn’t charge people for her work, and she definitely is the real deal.
Non believer, and crime reporter Derek Brandt lost his brother years ago. He was murdered, and the perp was never found. A woman claiming to be a psychic played on his and his father’s grief and they paid her for information. Of course, being a charlatan nothing she said was true. From that day Derek has thought even less of supposed psychics, and when he sees a chance to stop another person being taken for a ride he decides to run an expose on them. The person in question, was Christine. He unfairly filmed her in a bad light, and edited his story to make out that she was a money grabbing fraud, neglecting to mention that she never takes a penny from people she helps.
So, Derek and Christine definitely get off to a bad start. Christine’s sister, Ron, is fuming when she finds out what he did, and against Chris’s wishes, she goes to Derek’s with every intention of haunting him until he realised that his place was haunted and that he would need Christine to help him. That way she could prove to him she wasn’t a fraud. But, Ron is the one that had the shock, Derek’s house was already haunted. By his brother Jimmy. Jimmy knew that his brother blamed himself for his murder, and that he’s put his life on hold while still trying to solve the case. Jimmy won’t move into the light and cross over until he makes his brother understand that it wasn’t his fault and that his life must move on.
From there the story goes on to the inevitable, Derek having to go to Christine, and she having to make him believe that his brother’s ghost is haunting him. There are some laugh out loud scenes where the ghosts are making things fly about etc to spook Derek. There are also some humbling scenes for him where he realises that he’s slated Christine on the news and got them to think she is fake when she is anything but that. She has put her heart and soul into helping Derek communicate with his brother and to help them both work out who killed Jimmy. All the while a smouldering attraction develops between the couple, but both want to protect each other from danger, Christine from criminals, and Derek from angry spirits so they both try to fight their attraction.
Will they manage to keep their hands off each other, more importantly can they keep safe while digging into the cold case? Could they end up ghosts too?? Or will they manage to get the bad guy/s which will let Jimmy finally move on?
This was a nicely written story that as well as being a suspense and romance, also made me think about what the afterlife has to hold. I am not quite sure about ghosts being able to have passionate kisses, but hey, who knows what they can do, so well done to the author for using artistic licence there. I really did enjoy this story, and if you like a bit of suspense amongst the romance, and you like all things paranormal, you will enjoy this story. Oh and I had an idea from the start who murdered Jimmy, but I was so WRONG. I love a book with a twist, and a believable one at that!
