Jennifer Haymore’s sweeping Highland Knights series is perfect for readers of Maya Banks, Monica McCarty, and Sabrina Jeffries—and as the saga resumes, one of Scotland’s most steadfast warriors shields a broken beauty while she soothes the pain in his soldier’s heart. When Lady Emilia Featherstone discovers that her despicable father has been scheming against the crown, she turns to the Highland Knights for protection—and retribution. Spirited away to a safe house on the outskirts of London, Emilia is surprised to find herself sharing close quarters with a soft-spoken, musclebound Highlander. Before long, curiosity gives way to an alarming attraction. Emilia has learned firsthand from her father that men are not to be trusted. She just never met one so honorable and loyal, so powerful and, yes, tempting. Ever since Waterloo, Colin Stirling has struggled with memories that haunt him night and day. Driven near to madness, he no longer trusts himself with meaningful relationships of any kind. At least in this temporary sanctuary, Colin can withdraw from the world—that is, until his stunningly gorgeous charge learns the full depth of his pain. In Emilia, Colin sees a kindred spirit with battle scars of her own. He also senses a chance to heal . . . and to find love. Includes a special message from the editor, as well as an excerpt from another Loveswept title.

Highland Temptation is the third book in the ‘Highland Knights’ series by Jennifer Haymore. I have read the first book in the series, but not the second, but you don’t have to have read any of them in order to fully enjoy this book.
This is the story of Lady Emilia Featherstone. Her father has always been abusive to her, whipping her whenever he found the slightest fault in her. When she finds out that her father is the leader of a group of people who are trying to bring down the crown, her father really goes to town with the whip on her. He threatens her with her life if she tells anybody what she knows. She knows she can’t let him get away with his plans, so she escapes and runs to the only people she knows that could help her, and stop her father…. The Highland Knights.
Colin Stirling is one of the Knights, and it’s into his arms that she practically falls when she pounds on their door late at night. The women in the house tend to her wounds, but it’s Colin that soothes Emilia the most. He finds out that it’s her father that has wounded her so badly, but as yet, she’s not ready to tell him why she was whipped. She tells him that she in danger, but she can’t tell him why, not yet. She knows she must tell him, but at the end of the day, the man is her father, and she knows he will be hung for his plans of treason.
It is decided amongst the Knights that Colin whisk Amelia away to Scotland. Her father will want to get her home, and her life will be in danger because of all she knows, so the best thing is to get her to safety.
During their travel and spending so much time together the couple find out more about each other, and Colin also finds out what Amelia’s father is planning. He sends word to the other Knights and they carry on towards their destination. They spend a few nights in various hotels where their attraction to each other is difficult for them to ignore. Colin wants Amelia, but knows that the night terrors he has after seeing and experiencing horrendous things in the Battle of Waterloo, are something that Amelia shouldn’t deal with. Can Amelia convince him that she is ready, willing and able to take on the task.
First things first though, Colin must keep Amelia safe, and her father and the other men in his group must be arrested and brought to justice. Is it as easy as it sounds? Of course not. Will Amelia get her man?? Can their passion be more than that, and what passion it is, phew… or can it be real lasting love?
This was a really lovely story. Colin is a wonderful hero, he is the strength that Amelia needs. But he needs her as much as she needs him, she is the only one who can help him deal with his demons. Amelia has been through so much at the hands of her father, she too has nightmares about it. Something happens during the story that makes her finally see that although he is her father, it will be no loss to anybody, including her, if her father does end up getting hung for his crimes. Throughout the whole story you can’t help but hope for a happy ending for Colin and Amelia. They are so perfect for each other.
