What an exciting start to a new-to-me series by a new-to-me author!
Landon Donnigan knows all about being in command. Fresh out of the Marine Corps after a bullet sent him home with a medical discharge, Landon spends his time managing a logistics company, working out at Jameson’s Gym and stressing over his family. The last thing on his mind was falling in love.
Clinical psychologist, Ava Rosenthal had a 5 year plan. So far she’d been able to check off most of the items on that list. Career, home, family support. But she was 30 and not in a relationship. She worked hard and had little time to mingle, but she was working on it. Even though her cousins called her “Dateless In Seattle”, Ava had recently ventured into the online dating world. So far, most of her dates met her checklist of requirements- bookish, quiet, close to her size, a professional. So why did they do nothing for her?
Ava frequented Jameson’s Gym with her cousins. Landon helped out there, keeping an eye on his younger brother. Confident and cocky, Landon approached Ava first offering his weight lifting expertise. Ava thought he was good looking but in no way met her list of requirements. Later, while on a date with her latest online match, Ava runs into Landon and can’t help but notice how lacking her date is in comparison. Landon was masculine. Too macho. So why did she find herself interested in someone so obviously wrong for her?
With all the time Landon had to spend trying to fix his dysfunctional family, the last thing he had time for was woman troubles. Especially not the kind that had an advanced degree. But he couldn’t get Ava out of his head. She had fire and he was anxious to see what kinds of games the pretty doctor liked to play between the sheets. He knew he wasn’t “her type” but every kiss and touch between them said they were perfect for each other. They had chemistry. She was snarky, intelligent, and sexy. Just his type.
Ava had to admit Landon was persistent. Between attending Landon and his brother’s self defense class and a few impromptu dates, she found herself dating Landon. He liked pushing her buttons and she realized she liked flirting with him, which was so unlike her. He tempted her with a lot of foreplay but told her she could set the pace and decide when they actually had sex. But the more she was with him, the less control she felt like she had. She had always prided herself on being in control of her life but Landon had swept her off her feet. She didn’t have to be in command with him and that submissiveness excited her. She couldn’t believe how his bossy talk aroused her. What was he doing to independent and powerful Ava?
A great story of finding love when you least expect it and not at all how you had planned. Ava and Landon were fun characters. I loved their banter and trading of barbs. I will never get the idea of a “banana hammock” out of my head! And the intimate scenes were off the charts! I also loved that we got a great introduction to their families who I assume will be involved in future books in this series. Apparently the characters from Marie Harte’s McCauley Brothers series are connected to this series as well. That was the only thing that confused me as I have not read that series. There was enough information given though to give me the gist of that relationship. Still, I’d like to read that series as well. Maybe before #2 in this series comes out. If you’re looking for a fun and sexy romance, you’ll fall in love with Ava, Landon, and their wacky families.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book, and I really appreciate the chance to get in on this series from the start.
